A Conversation With Melissa Berton
A Conversation With Melissa Berton for World Health Day
Join SN Women co-chair Subhra Priyadarshini in a conversation with Melissa Berton. The conversation will be followed by an interaction with the audience about Melissa’s inspirational journey, women’s health, girls’ education and how publishers such as Springer Nature can help spotlight women’s health, especially the socio-economic aspects of menstrual hygiene and the taboos associated with it.
Melissa is also the Founder & Executive Director of The Pad Project, a non- profit organization dedicated to menstrual hygiene and girl’s education. Berton has been a lifelong advocate for girls and women, serving as the faculty sponsor for Girls Learn International, a program of The Feminist Majority Foundation that advocates for equal access to education for all genders. Her film based in Kathikhera, a village outside of New Delhi, traces the lives of women who installed a machine to sell their pads throughout their district. The movement went beyond the screen as the pad project continued to work to raise funds, awareness, and education throughout the world.
